The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Luces appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Luces so the Luces or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) GULES: Red color that symbolizes Strength, Victory, Daring and Highness.

2) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

3) SABLE: Black color that symbolizes Prudence, Sadness, Rigor, Honesty and Obedience.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* CROSS: The Cross symbolizes the sword of the Knights, to whom this piece was granted when they returned from combat with their sword dyed in enemy blood. The Cross was also taken as a teaching by most of the Crusaders.

* ANGIO: The Chief of Angio, belonging to Italian heraldry, represents a political alliance with the Welf party (derived from Welf, Duke of Bavaria) who were loyal to the Pope.

* TRIANGLE: The Triangle symbolizes Divine Equality and Perfection.

* GYRON: The Gyron represents Favor.

* ROSE: The Roses are an emblem of Beauty, of the Immaculate Honor, of the Nobility, of the recognized Merit and symbolize Constancy against depletions of fortune and Fierce Push to avenge the offenses that affect the trunk of their lineage.

* CROWN: The Crown is a symbol of Royal or Seigniorial Authority and Dignity or Honorary Badge.

* SWAN: The Swan, by the tradition that he sings sweetly when he is about to die, means Ancient Nobility, without stain of any kind, who dies courageously executing glorious undertakings.

* WALL: The Wall represents the Noble Heart of the Knight, in which no betrayal or disloyalty can enter.
