The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Meri appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Meri so the Meri or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) SABLE: Black color that symbolizes Prudence, Sadness, Rigor, Honesty and Obedience.

2) GULES: Red color that symbolizes Strength, Victory, Daring and Highness.

3) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* BEZANT: The Bezants, due to its oriental significance, was adopted by most of the Knights who took part in the expedition to the Holy Land.

* LAUREL: The Laurel is a symbol of Good Fame, and due to the perpetual greenness of its leaves, of Imperecedera Victoria.

* RAVEN: The Raven is a symbol of the Bold and Courageous Spirit that risks itself in defense of its benefactors.

* CAULDRON: The Cauldrons along with other vessels: cups, jugs and kettles, which were used to handle victuals, were formerly the Richman brand.

* TURTLE: The Turtle is one of the most noble figures, being a symbol of the Knight who retires late from combat, facing his enemy until the last moment, trusting in his own strength.

* COCK: The Cock is a symbol of Vigilance and Tenacity in the fight.

* CRANE: The Crane is a symbol of a well-ordered Government under the power of a good boss, who distributes surveillance in turns; it also symbolizes Prudence in the art of governing peoples well.

* YOKE: The Yoke symbolizes Unity.
