The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Freixo appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Freixo so the Freixo or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

2) PURPLE: Justice, Wit, Truth, Greatness, Wisdom and Love; those who wear this color are obliged to defend the Prince defending ecclesiastical people.

3) ARGENT (Silver): Purity, Integrity, Obedience, Firmness, Surveillance, Eloquence and Expiration.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* ROUNDLE: The Roundles symbolize the bucklers that the soldiers carried as a defensive weapon.

* CAULDRON: The Cauldrons along with other vessels: cups, jugs and kettles, which were used to handle victuals, were formerly the Richman brand.

* TOWER: The Tower represents the Generosity with which the Knight offers himself at the service of his Country and his King.

* PELICAN: The Pelican is a symbol of the Charitable and Pious Lord towards his vassals.

* HAND: The Hand symbolizes Open Generosity; if it is closed, Strength, and linked with another, Friendship.

* WOLVES: The Wolves are a symbol of a Constant Heart that suffers the calamities of war and siege with generous spirit; but when the time comes to fight in the open field, he fiercely fights, without giving his enemy a barracks.

* LAMB: The Lamb symbolizes the Kings and Leaders who have to sacrifice themselves to the good and care of their subjects; also denotes in the whiteness of fleeces, Qualified Nobility.

* SALTIRE: The Saltire symbolizes the Banner or script of the leader undefeated in combat.
