The work "Linajes y Blasones de Galicia", by Father Crespo, where the heraldry and the history of the family name Covadoso appears, is the most important treatise of the heraldry of Galicia (Spain), and was published three hundred years after the appearance of the posthumous "Nobiliario, Armas y Triunfos de Galicia", by Father Felipe de la Gandara. Its author Father Crespo Pozo, had for his investigations, vigils and costly walks that were rewarded with the kind collaboration of Nobles as the Dukes of Medinaceli facilitating the archive of the Grand Casa Marquesal de Camarasa, etc. All this resulted in a plurality of sources of consultation that make the scholarly work, encyclopedic and illustrative in Galician heraldry. This work collects, as we have already said, the history and heraldry of family Covadoso so the Covadoso or they are Galician or linked in some of their branches to Galicia.

One of the most distinctive qualities of heraldry is the use of a limited palette of colours and patterns, usually referred to as tinctures. These are divided into three categories, known as metals, colours, and furs.

Next we are going to see the meanings of three tinctures:

1) OR (Gold): Nobility, Magnanimity, Wealth, Power, Light, Constancy and Wisdom.

2) AZURE: Blue color that symbolizes Justice, Zeal, Truth, Loyalty, Charity and Beauty.

3) SABLE: Black color that symbolizes Prudence, Sadness, Rigor, Honesty and Obedience.

Next lets look at the characteristics of some figures that we can find in heraldry and crests:

* BRIDGE: The Bridge symbolizes Alliance and Union.

* CAULDRON: The Cauldrons along with other vessels: cups, jugs and kettles, which were used to handle victuals, were formerly the Richman brand.

* SHELL: The Shell symbolizes the Knight who marches to the borders of his states to widen them by fighting; it is also a symbol of Pilgrim.

* FLEUR-DE-LIS: The Fleur-de-lis represents the Generous Courage that, for received grievances, repeatedly returns benefits, and is a symbol of French heraldry.

* COMET: The Comet symbolizes a Brave Courage to prevent in time, without fear, future grievances.

* SALTIRE: The Saltire symbolizes the Banner or script of the leader undefeated in combat.

* PINE: The Pine, due to its elevation, is a symbol of Noble and enlightened Thoughts and due to its resinous nature, suitable for burning, of a Fiery Heart in avenging family outrages.

* LOZENGE: The Lozenges symbolize Constancy.
